In this episode, Dean Newlund and Alec Hanson discuss:

  • The transition to the digital city
  • Present digitally and physically
  • The ICE of social media marketing
  • Being a decent and authentic person

Key Takeaways:

  • The workplace has been less about geography lately. People are moving into the digital space and in it, location stops being a limit. You can be anywhere and still maintain business relationships.
  • Digital interaction doesn’t replace the physical no matter how new the tech is, but it’s necessary that there is some kind of interaction. If you are neither digital nor physical, then that means you’re not there at all. Better yet, be present both physically and digitally.
  • Identify, connect, and engage. Identify which community you’d like to be associated with and make sure you’re connected to them. Don’t send your content into the void, find your audience and engage with them.
  • When posting on the internet, don’t forget to be a decent and authentic human being. Show your product or business in the best light but also talk about yourself – what do you value, what made you want to work in your industry.

“…Leveraging video, community technology, social – but I don’t think it necessarily replaces the physical, it just augments the experience. But if you don’t do that at all, then you’re not physical or digital, that’s a huge problem for culture.” — Alec Hanson
